Lopressor may cause side effects, including:
Dizziness
Drowsiness
Diarrhea
Mild skin itching or rash
If these symptoms are bothersome, worsen, or persist, consult your healthcare provider.
Seek immediate medical attention if experiencing any of the following:
Severe allergic reactions: Hives, difficulty breathing, swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat
Very slow heartbeats
Light-headedness or fainting
Shortness of breath, swelling, or rapid weight gain (signs of new or worsening heart failure)
Cold sensations in extremities (hands and feet—metoprolol can worsen peripheral blood circulation)
Patients should report any unusual or severe side effects to their healthcare provider.
Lopressor is commonly prescribed for:
Angina (Chest Pain): Helps reduce the frequency and severity of chest pain episodes
Hypertension (High Blood Pressure): Lowers blood pressure to reduce the risk of stroke, heart attack, and kidney problems
Heart attack: Helps improve survival rates after a myocardial infarction (heart attack)
Take Lopressor exactly as prescribed by a healthcare provider.
The medication should be taken with or immediately after a meal.
Maintain a consistent daily schedule for taking Lopressor.
Lopressor (metoprolol tartrate) tablets are scored and may be broken prior to administration.
If a dose is missed, skip it and resume the regular schedule. Do not double the dose.
In case of an overdose, seek emergency medical assistance immediately. Symptoms may include severe dizziness, fainting, or difficulty breathing.
Do not suddenly stop taking Lopressor, as this may worsen the condition being treated.
Regular medical tests, including pulse and blood pressure monitoring, are necessary during treatment.
Inform healthcare providers if surgery is planned while on Lopressor.
Avoid alcohol, as it may increase side effects (e.g., dizziness and drowsiness).
Refrain from driving or engaging in hazardous activities until the effects of the medication are known.
